Since 2016, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) have worked with JICA to develop and roll out the Maternal and Child Health Record Book (MCH Record Book), a paper-based home record that consolidates maternal health, child health, and continuum-of-care information into a single booklet.
This concept note proposes a digital companion platform that extends the reach and functionality of the existing book rather than replacing it. This project aims to first develop a digital version of the MCH Record Book, and improve data quality
Objectives
Increase completion rates of the full recommended schedule of antenatal and postnatal visits among enrolled mothers.
Reduce delays in care-seeking for danger signs associated with preterm birth, birth asphyxia, and neonatal infection.
Extend the functional reach of the MCH Record Book through a digital layer accessible in local languages and over basic mobile phones.
Generate an evidence base on the impact of digital reminders on maternal and neonatal health outcomes, to inform potential national scale-up.
